Custom Fabricated Fiberglass News Rack
The one-piece fiberglass racks are 74” wide, 40” tall and 24” deep and were commissioned by the Madison Avenue Business Improvement District and designed by Karim Rashid, an award-winning, New York based, industrial designer known for his innovative and elegant concepts.
The newsracks completely eliminated the need for a structural steel framework that is normally required for street-side mounting. The newsrack concept was designed to reduce clutter along the sidewalks and replace multiple, existing newspaper and magazine racks with a single, contemporary, yet functional design. The fiberglass newsracks also provided spaces for 22 different advertiser’s logos to be applied to different areas of the newsracks that matched the newspapers or magazines featured in the racks.
“Madison Avenue is an international shopping destination and it’s only appropriate that visual elements on the street should harmonize with the environment as much as possible, “said Rashid. “The previous newsracks were of different heights, colors and shapes and had no sense of design unity. My concept for the new newsrack was to have it function as a piece of street furniture – something functional, yet beautiful.” - FindArticles - Rashid brings industrial revolution to Madison Ave
